The inaugural Mel Higa Memorial Golf Round was played on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Griffith Park’s Harding Golf Course. The cool weather and sporadic rain was a fitting tone for the round to honor Mel Higa’s legacy. Embracing the conditions as a testament to his love for the sport, the rain only added to the day’s camaraderie as we shared memories of Mel as navigated the very same course that he shot even par at decades ago.
As we ran out of sunlight, we grouped up on hole 15 for a final shot and could imagine his laughter and smile. It was a fitting tribute for a man whom persevered through life’s challenges by focusing on the positives and enjoying time spent with friends and family.
